Dehydrated Kiwi Chips

Making dehydrated kiwi chips is a great way to preserve your fruit. They make quick and healthy snacks that are so easy to make. This is a great beginner food preservation project. First, you need a food dehydrator. Here are a few to choose from!

Hands slicing kiwis on a wooden board. Kiwi peels on the side. Granite countertop in the background. Fresh, vibrant green.

The first step is to wash and peel the kiwi with a peeler or a paring knife. Then, slice the kiwi into 1/4 inch slices. The important thing is to get all the slices approximately the same size. This helps them to dry at the same rate.

Load the dehydrator trays with a layer of your sliced kiwi leaving a small space between each. Turn on the dehydrator to 135 degrees F.

Your kiwis will be done when they are pliable but dry to the touch. This can take anywhere from 10 to 18 hours depending on how thick your kiwi slices are as well as on your individual dehydrator, the humidity in your area, etc.

Once your dehydrated kiwi chips are entirely dry, allow them to cool. Place dry chips in an airtight container and store them in a cool, dry place. Make sure you label what they are and the date you dehydrated them.
