How to Make Easy Pizza Dough at Home

Writer's picture: Marie OvertonMarie Overton

I love this pizza dough recipe. It is soft and workable and tastes so good. I have used it for both pizza and calzones with good success. Not only that but it is so easy to throw together. The cost of prepared pizza dough is so much more than just making it from scratch. (And it tastes better too.)

The first step is to activate the yeast. You do this by mixing together: 2 teaspoons of yeast, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 cup of really warm water. Give it a quick stir and then allow it to rest for 5-10 minutes.

Now we will add the rest of the ingredients: 2 tablespoons olive oil, 3 cups flour, and 1 teaspoon of salt.

Mix this well with a dough hook or knead it by hand.

Allow it to rise covered in a warm place for 30-60 minutes.

Divide the dough in half. This recipe makes enough dough for 2 medium-sized pizzas. I then roll it into circles and it is ready to be used for pizzas or calzones.

You have so many options when it comes to pizza. You can use a white sauce or a BBQ sauce or a tomato-based sauce as the base. I really like our garlic herb pizza sauce that we can up. Here is a link to that recipe: https://www.wisdompreserved.life/garlic-herb-pizza-sauce

Then of course there are all the different toppings and cheeses. I mean really what is not to like. After you have topped your pizza, you just bake it at 450 degrees for 15 minutes. If you decide to make a calzone it will need to cook longer.
