Onion powder is such a great addition to your kitchen toolbox. Some of my children are a little picky about onions in their food. By using the powder instead, I not only avoid tears at the dinner table but tears cutting up the onions as well. This really is such a simple process. For years I was buying it at the store until I saw how easy this was to make and I have made my own ever since.

You will need very dry onions, dehydrated or freeze-dried work well. If you need a tutorial on how to dehydrate onions there is a link at the bottom of this post.

Onion powder can be made in either a food processor or a blender. Place 2 cups of dry onions in your processor/blender.

Chop for 1 to 2 minutes. Makes 1/2 to 1 cup of powder.

Fine Powder

Place the powder in an airtight container and store it in a cool, dry place. To use, add it to any recipe that you would normally use onions in.
