Preplant Fertilizer (Mittleider Gardening)

In addition to having many recipes for custom soils the Mittleider Gardening Course Book also has many “recipes” for fertilizing your plants based on what stage of growth they are in. This preplant fertilizer provides the basic conditions that are needed for plant growth. It is added to both garden rows and seed flats.

Preplant Fertilizer Supplies

20 pounds of gypsum (powdered or pelletized)

1 pound of Epsom salt (Magnesium Sulfate)

4 ounces of borax (boron)

5-gallon bucket with gamma lid

Begin making the fertilizer by combining all the ingredients.

mix well

Then mix with your hand or a large paddle. Be sure it is mixed uniformly. If you have a cement mixer you can mix it together there.


It is now ready to add your soil.
