Simply Divine Peaches and Cream Ice Cream

I was looking through my Great-Grandmother’s 1913 cookbook and came across this amazingly simple ice cream recipe. It requires no special equipment and takes mere minutes to make. (Minus the freezing time.) Since I always have canned peaches around, and often have cream from my sister’s dairy it is especially easy for me.

You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to have tasty old-fashioned peach ice cream.

Steps:

1. Drain 1 quart of peaches. Empty fruit into a large bowl.

2. Cover peaches with 2 cups of sugar. Mash the fruit and sugar together.

3. Pour 6 cups of cream and 1 teaspoon vanilla over the fruit mixture.

4. Mix together well and place in a large lidded container. Place in freezer for about 4 hours.

5. Once it has partially frozen, stir so the fruit doesn’t separate down to the bottom. Freeze another 8-12 hours or until ice cream is at the desired consistency.

I find it is easier to scoop if I take it out of the freezer 10 minutes before I want to serve it. This is less fluffy than a lot of our ice cream is now but still so good and the ease of it makes me much more likely to make it.
