Stable Foundation Cricut Craft

This was a quick craft to make for the Christmas season. I love the play on words. "Every family needs a stable foundation." Super cute. Link to Cricut design: https://design.cricut.com/landing/project-detail/66e7ab58dc7075b5839badef

The first step is to cut a board into a 9-inch by 9-inch square. I used mdf board but you could really use any that are the right size. I then sanded the edges with 120 grit sandpaper.

Now it is time to start the decorating. I like a dark blue so it looks like a night sky. I painted all of the wood except for the back. When painting, always go in one direction. I used a foam brush to so I didn't have to worry about the brush strokes showing.

weed the vinyl

While waiting for the paint to dry, it is a good time to "weed" the vinyl. This just means that you remove any portion of the sticker vinyl that you will not be using, including the center of an "o" etc.

After the paint is dry it is time to sand it down a little. Sanding the edges and surfaces are what really gives it that rustic look. I sand it until some of the wood starts to show through.

Placing the vinyl is usually a little easier if you leave half of the vinyl attached to the backing. This allows you to keep everything in a straight line. I press down the exposed portion and then slowly roll off the backing.

I like to do the star and word stable in a separate color so they stand out more.

First I spray it with polyurethane, then, it is ready to add to the Christmas decor.
