Because my oldest son LOVES hamburgers, they became a regular meal at our house. I have played with the recipe a lot over the years and have ended up with a wonderfully flavorful result. In fact, my son tells me he would rather eat my burgers than go out and eat them anywhere else.

Mix well with your hands (if you feel squeamish about touching the meat you can use gloves.): 2 pounds of ground meat, 1/2 cup of quick oats, 1 teaspoon of pepper, 2 teaspoons of garlic powder, 2 teaspoons of salt, 2 teaspoons of onion powder, 2 eggs, 2 teaspoons of liquid smoke, and (optional) 1/2 teaspoon of chipotle pepper powder (Some of the little kids think this is a bit spicy.).

Divide the meat mixture into 8 equal sections.

Roll into a ball and press flat with your hand.

I like to place a bowl over it upside down and move it around to get the smooth edges of the patty.

This recipe will make 8 quarter-pound patties.

Grill for anywhere from 10-14 minutes depending on how well done you like them. Grill for half the time on each side.

Serve on a bun with your favorite toppings.
